2013 Annual Retreat

The theme of Friday’s retreat was “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace.”

Mrs. Dombrowski started the retreat with the following comments:

This past Friday Pope Francis was in Assisi visiting the birthplace of the man who is so important to him as Pope.

Saint Francis of Assisi was a son who came from a wealthy family in Assisi, Italy. He realized early in his life that material possessions didn’t mean much. What holds meaning is living a life centered on God and living the word of God for others. He became a man of poverty, a man of peace, and a man who loved and protected creation.

Pope Francis I was born in Argentina but he, unlike Francis of Assisi, did not come from a wealthy family. However, he, like Francis, found a life centered on God and living the word of God for others. He is a man who embraces poverty, peace, and the love and protection of creation.

When he was elected Pope, he chose the name Francis because when the votes were counted and it became obvious that he would be the next Pope, his great friend Cardinal Hummes from Brazil hugged him and said, “Don’t forget the poor.”

On Friday we honored both of these great men of the Church. We hope that we, like them, can make a difference in the world we live in now to be “the poor church that takes care of others with no concern for itself.”

Our retreat is the act of moving away from something. We look forward to returning as different people based on our reflection throughout the day.

About School Notices

The school sends home messages in the student’s backpack. You can stay up-to-date on the most recent messages by viewing or subscribing to our school Facebook and/or Twitter pages. Notices that are produced by the school are placed on the website for convenient access in the In the Backpack section of the website. It is organized by month. Finally, you can access the school calendar by clicking on the Calendar link on the upper right side of the website and find the monthly lunch calendar and lunch ticket forms under the Current Families link on each webpage. From time to time, the school will send SMS email subscribers announcements and reminders.

2013-2014 Scrip Form

We offer a Scrip Program at Saint Michael School as a way to fulfill your yearly Fundraising Commitment. Scrip is a word that means “substitute money”. In other words Scrip is gift cards or certificates from local and national retailers. They are the same as gift cards/certificates that you purchase at the store.

Print a scrip form from our website.

You’re probably asking yourself how these stores help us raise money. Retailers agree to sell gift cards to SMS at a discount. Families like yours buy the cards/certificates for full face value and redeem them for the same full face value. The bulk of the discount, which can range anywhere from 2% to 16% or more, is retained by SMS as revenue which in turn goes towards your families Fundraising Commitment.

  • The retailer gets cash up front and repeat business
  • You get a powerful fundraising alternative that involves NO SELLING
  • Our school gets a regular source of revenue

The reason for the effectiveness of Scrip is that you generate revenue through purchases you would make anyway. You earn money for SMS without spending any additional money. Just spend your regular shopping dollars with Scrip cards at the stores that participate in the program – that includes food, clothing, entertainment, gas, dining out and so much more.

The Saint Michael School Scrip Program is a simple and effective way to fundraise. Just fill out the order form with your payment and return it to school on Monday morning in an envelope marked SMS SCRIP PROGRAM. Shoprite and Pathmark orders will be processed weekly. Orders for all other retailers will be processed on a bi-weekly basis. Depending on order volume, it may be sooner or in some cases where there may not be enough to order, we will notify you as long as you provide your Email, Contact name & a Phone number you can be reached.

Orders will be picked up from the office every Monday afternoon and delivered the following Monday. For weeks where there is no school on Monday (the day after the feast), Scrip will be delivered the next day and orders will be pushed back a week. Please plan accordingly. We need a week turnaround time for placing the order with the vendors as well as delivery time to receive the cards.

If you have any questions, please contact me at joannmeo@gmail.com If you forget to send in your order to school on Monday morning, I will accept your order via email that day so it can be included for the current week. Please send in the form along with your check to school the following day.
