HSA Executive Board and Principal meet on the second Wednesday of each month. We welcome comments and ideas always and, at the meetings indicating “Open,” the opportunity to share those comments and ideas is available. We urge all SMS parents and guardians to attend these meetings. All open meetings will be held in the auditorium; parents are welcome to attend the open session which runs from 7:00PM until 7:30PM.
To meet the objectives of the HSA, various committees are formed. Each committee is led by a chairperson. Below are the current committees:
VISITING READER: Ongoing – 1/2 Hour During School
Rotating visiting readers are invited to come in and read a book to our Pre-K 3 through 2nd grade classes. The children love to see their parents, grandparents, friends and relatives. In just a half-hour, think of the lasting impression you will make! Books can be selected by the reader, teacher or check out our library for ideas.
UNAVAILABLE DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS.
CLASS PARENTS:
Each class will be assigned two parents. Class parents are important members of the HSA and will be asked to:
Support their teacher as needed
Attend or send a class representative to open HSA meetings
Support the HSA by chairing and/or participating in an event or on a fundraising committee
Coordinate teacher gift collections
Communicate class lists, school closings and other information as needed
Coordinate class celebrations
USED BOOK SALE:
Volunteers are needed to help sort book donations for annual Used Book Sale.
SPOOKY BINGO: Evening
What a better way than to spend the evening with your friends playing bingo. Children can wear their Halloween costume and enjoy an evening full of games. Committee members coordinate the prizes, set up for the event (including donations of drinks and snacks) and clean up.
UNAVAILABLE DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS.
CHRISTMAS WREATH SALE:
Saint Michael’s wreaths are the best in town! The chairperson sends out the flyers and collects the orders. Committee members assist the chairperson with separating the orders for the families.
GIVING TREE:
Children choose a gift tag from the tree in the main lobby that names a person who is in need. Gifts are then donated for these families and distributed. Committee members obtain lists of the recipients/ages, fill out gift tags and oversee gift collection and delivery of donations.
SECRET SANTA SHOP:
Children can shop for perfect gifts for family and friends! Chairpersons order/shop for merchandise, set up shop, and oversee the two days of sale held in the cafeteria.
BREAKFAST WITH SANTA/PICTURE WITH SANTA:
The children love eating breakfast with their family, friends and the Man in Red! Committee members coordinate Santa’s visit, photographer, ticket sales and staffing for breakfast and clean up.
FISH ‘N’ CHIPS DINNER (Takeout available):
During a Friday evening in the season of Lent, fish and chips will be served! Pizza or pasta is available for non-fish lovers. Committee chair and members are responsible for ticket sales, procuring the meal, set up and clean up.
FATHER / DAUGHTER DANCE:
The girls at Saint Michael can invite their favorite guy for a special night out! Committee members will be responsible for planning and coordinating the event which will be held in the Saint Michael Auditorium. A lovely photo of the young lady and her escort will be a memorable keepsake.
UNAVAILABLE DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS.
At Saint Michael we promote community involvement with our students and what better way to reinforce that than for our kids to see their parents involved. There are many events and activities that are sponsored by the HSA and we are looking forward to your involvement.

We offer a Scrip Program at Saint Michael School as a way to fulfill your yearly Fundraising Commitment. Scrip is a word that means “substitute money”. In other words Scrip is gift cards or certificates from local and national retailers. They are the same as gift cards/certificates that you purchase at the store.
You’re probably asking yourself how these stores help us raise money. Retailers agree to sell gift cards to SMS at a discount. Families like yours buy the cards/certificates for full face value and redeem them for the same full face value. The bulk of the discount, which can range anywhere from 2% to 16% or more, is retained by SMS as revenue which in turn goes towards your families Fundraising Commitment.
The reason for the effectiveness of Scrip is that you generate revenue through purchases you would make anyway. You earn money for SMS without spending any additional money. Just spend your regular shopping dollars with Scrip cards at the stores that participate in the program – that includes food, clothing, entertainment, gas, dining out and so much more.
The Saint Michael School Scrip Program is a simple and effective way to fundraise. Just fill out the order form with your payment and return it to school on Monday morning in an envelope marked SMS SCRIP PROGRAM. Shoprite and Pathmark orders will be processed weekly. Orders for all other retailers will be processed on a bi-weekly basis. Depending on order volume, it may be sooner or in some cases where there may not be enough to order, we will notify you as long as you provide your Email, Contact name & a Phone number you can be reached.
Orders will be picked up from the office every Monday afternoon and delivered the following Monday. For weeks where there is no school on Monday (the day after the feast), Scrip will be delivered the next day and orders will be pushed back a week. Please plan accordingly. We need a week turnaround time for placing the order with the vendors as well as delivery time to receive the cards.
If you have any questions, please contact me at jstroh0214@gmail.com If you forget to send in your order to school on Monday morning, I will accept your order via email that day so it can be included for the current week. Please send in the form along with your check to school the following day.
